Background

-Purpose The purpose of this lab is to see how hydroponics works and to figure out what type of plant grows best is our class room fish tank.

-Variables- The independent variable is the type of seed we are using. The dependent is the amount of leaves that are present and the height of the plant. The control is the cubes that they are growing in, the same water, the same amount of light and the same nutrients in the water.



-Hypothesis- I think that one plant will grow better than the other plant if they are more suitable to grow in that temperature and pH range.

- Research
Spinach :
1. Optimum temperature : 50~60 degrees Fahrenheit
2. Amount of light : 12 hours a day
3. Nitrogen : needs a lot of nitrogen while it is growing
4. PH : 6.4~6.8
Arugula :
1. Optimum temperature : 45~55 degrees Fahrenheit
2. Amount of light : at least 6 or 8 hours of full sun every day
3. Nitrogen : medium
4. PH : 6.5~7
Lettuce
1. Optimum temperature : 60~ 65 degrees Fahrenheit
2. Amount of light : 4 or 5 hours a day
3. Nitrogen : medium
4. PH : 6~6.7
